The inverter app shows offline

Usually the inverter has lost your home Wi-Fi, often after a router change or a new Wi-Fi password. Generation is not affected; only the app stops updating. For a V-Guard Solrigo inverter:

  1. 1Open the V-Guard Smart Client app and choose Wi-Fi configuration.
  2. 2In your phone's Wi-Fi list, join the network named after the inverter's serial number. The password is on the inverter's Wi-Fi label; ask us if you cannot find it.
  3. 3Turn your mobile data off, so the phone stays on the inverter's network.
  4. 4In the app, open the network settings, choose your home Wi-Fi and type its password. Save.
  5. 5The inverter restarts. Give it a few minutes, then check the app's data log.

Reading your meters

Your home has two meters after solar. The KSEB net meter records what you import from KSEB and what you export to it. The generation meter records everything your panels produce. Between them, they tell you how the system is doing.

  1. 1On the net meter, step through the screens to the cumulative export and import readings. Note both on the same day each month.
  2. 2On the generation meter, note the total units generated. Your inverter's app should show nearly the same figure.
  3. 3In the DC and AC distribution boxes, the surge protection indicators should be green. A red indicator means that protection has acted or failed: call us.

Is my system working?

A five-minute check on a sunny day, before you call anyone:

  1. 1Look at today's generation on the inverter screen or app. Around midday it should be climbing steadily.
  2. 2Check the switches in the DC and AC boxes are on and the protection indicators are green.
  3. 3Compare this month's generation with the same month last year, not with last month: monsoon months are always lower.
  4. 4If generation is zero on a bright day, or an indicator is red, send us a photo of the inverter screen and the boxes.

Power went, and so did the solar

That is by design. An on-grid inverter must stop within a fraction of a second when KSEB's supply fails, so no power is fed into a line that a lineman may be working on. It restarts by itself when the supply returns.

If cuts are frequent where you live, a battery can be added. A hybrid charger can run the house from a battery during cuts while the rest of the system stays on-grid, or the system can move to hybrid. How hybrid solar works.

A service visit, AMC or panel cleaning

On a service visit our technicians work through a checklist, not a quick look:

  1. 1Distribution box readings and the inverter's yearly generation data.
  2. 2Battery health and terminals, on hybrid and off-grid systems.
  3. 3Surge protection devices, cables and the earth resistance.
  4. 4Panels, structure and fasteners: corrosion treated, every point re-tightened.
  5. 5Shade: a tree that has grown since installation is reported to you.
  6. 6Panels cleaned with soft water and a soft brush or microfibre: never a pressure washer, abrasive powder or metal tool.

Still not right?

Send us a photo of the inverter screen. We will take it from there.
