Do solar panels need cleaning in Kerala? Yes, and here is the right way

A solar panel with a thin film of dust still works. That is the problem: nothing looks broken while you quietly lose 5 to 15 percent of your generation. Near the coast, salt spray adds its own layer, and a single patch of bird droppings can shade cells enough to drag down a whole string.

How often, and when

In most of Kerala, a proper clean every one to two months in the dry season is enough; the monsoon largely does the job itself. Clean in the early morning when panels are cool. Spraying cold water on a hot panel at noon is a good way to stress the glass and a bad way to spend a Sunday.

The right way, and the warranty-killing way

Soft water, a soft brush or microfibre, gentle flow. Never a pressure washer, never abrasive powders, never metal tools, and never standing on the panels. Panel warranties can be voided by visible cleaning damage, and micro-cracks from careless cleaning cost generation for decades.
