The most common doubt we hear from June to August: does solar even make sense in a state with three months of rain? It is a fair question, and the answer is in the arithmetic, not in reassurance.
The honest monsoon numbers
On a heavy rain day, generation can fall to a third of a clear day. Across the whole monsoon, a Kerala system typically produces 60 to 70 percent of its annual daily average. That is exactly why we quote annual figures of roughly 4 units per kW per day: the number already contains the monsoon. A system sized on sunny-day output alone would be a dishonest quote.
Net metering is the monsoon insurance
From January to May your roof over-produces and the excess is banked with KSEB as credit. In the monsoon months you draw that credit back. The billing year smooths out what the weather refuses to. This banking is also why on-grid owners barely notice the monsoon on their bills, while off-grid owners size their batteries for it.
Two practical monsoon notes from seventeen years here: rain keeps your panels naturally clean for free, and a properly earthed system with surge protection is non-negotiable in Kerala's lightning season. Both are part of every SEDNA installation.
